Pinterest is very happy with its annual prediction reports.
Last year, the platform noted that its trend predictions for 2020 were 80% correct, a claim it’s once again repeated in its latest Pinterest Predicts report, which provides an overview of where things are headed in 2022, based on Pin activity, in a range of business categories.
This time around, Pinterest has highlighted 35 trends which it says are not trending yet, but will be in the near future (Pinterest shared 30 trends last year).
The trends range from make-up, to fashion, to home décor, with various other, less Pinterest-y elements along the way.
As you can see here, for each trend, Pinterest provides a summary overview, along with related search trends that it’s seeing which reinforce its prediction.
Pinterest has also provided a more visual overview of each trend on its dedicated Pinterest Predicts mini-site, along with Pin samples in each category.
And in addition to its overall trends report, this year, Pinterest is also providing personalized trend prediction insights, based on your Pin activity and its trend notes, to highlight the coming shifts that are most likely to be of relevance to you.
“Our first-ever in-app experience is a set of personalized Idea Pins that will take Pinners on a journey through ideas they’ve loved, trends they might have been first to try and show their most inspired month in 2021, to our predictive suggestions of things they should try in 2022. To find Your 2022, open the Pinterest app on iOS or Android and click on the link on your home feed in the coming weeks.”
As you can see here, the new Trends experience will provide personal usage insights, along with the key trends from the broader report that align with your interests.
There’s some interesting data here, and if you’re marketing on Pinterest, or considering the platform for your 2022 strategy, it’s worth taking a look at the search trend notes and data, which may provide some key guidance in your approach.
And at 80% predictive value, in terms of flagging what’s coming next, Pinterest’s track record is solid.
Maybe, there’s a way for you to angle your promotions around these coming shifts.
